Review: The New ASUS Eee PC S101

  First post by: www.itsbattery.com

When ASUS first Apple A1012 Battery released their mini laptops (with the smallest storage spaces, at a meager 2 gigabytes), the company established itself as one of the first to reach and supply a truly international market. However, with the advent of more and more mini laptops or “netbooks”, just how is ASUS faring against the less expensive rivals?

The new ASUS Eee looks promising; it has increased storage capacity, more features, and even that rare VGA port that everyone is still missing with the newer mini-laptop assemblies. The S101, though more expensive than the others in the Eee line-up, is decidedly more powerful, and is built for more intensive work than the first ones.

For example, the S101 has a larger screen, and has a more streamlined external architecture, with smooth corners and a thinner look. The new Eee has a 10 inch screen (as opposed to the smaller screens of the mini-Eee models) and has a more type-able keyboard. Larger keyboards mean more Apple M8511 Battery space for the hands to move about- something that everyone could use, especially the ones who are suffering from so-called “fat finger-ness”.

Specifications and Performance

If you’re looking for a comfortable working laptop, the S101 definitely has something going with the newly revamped keyboard, which actually feels like a notebook’s own keyboard. But with all this going for the S101, it is extremely light and therefore extremely portable because of its weight: a notch above 1 kilogram.

Being portable, this one has definitely been built to be transported in suitcases and other amply-cushioned bags. The ASUS Eee S101 comes pre-installed with Windows XP Home Edition; which is sort of a let-down for those expecting something more substantial, like Windows XP Professional Edition or even Windows Vista Premium. But there is a reason for this- if you install something more substantial Windows XP Home Edition, the price of the unit will spike upward again.

As for security of the unit, the S101 lacks basic external security measures, like biometric fingerprint readers.

The S101 runs on an Atom processor, running at an ample 1.6 Apple M8244 Battery gigahertz. Unfortunately, with the kind of memory this one has, it’s not surprising that it really is more of a business machine than an entertainment machine- the memory is only 1 gigabyte. This memory is enough to play DVDs but not to play memory-intensive games like Doom 3.

There are actually two models to choose from:

The first model is the one being described in this review: 1 gigabyte memory, 16 gigabytes of storage space plus the Windows XP Home Edition.

The second model has 2 gigabytes of memory, 32 gigabytes or 64 gigabytes of storage space, and is shipped with Linux.

As was mentioned earlier, the choice for the operating system has a lot to do with the over-all cost. Licensing authentic operating systems is actually very expensive.

As for power and battery life, under normal use the battery can last for up to 3 hours, give or take a Apple A1079 Battery few minutes. Now, if the user of the laptop uses the S101 for just reading, the battery can last for more than 4 hours, give or take a few minutes again.

It’s well known that the number one used browser in the world is Internet Explorer, which is essentially free since it is bundled with Microsoft Windows. There are many problems with this Internet web browser, however. Since Internet Explorer is the most widely used in the world, it is the most likely browser to be targeted by hackers, malware, and spyware. These malicious users know of security exploits in the browser that they manipulate to make your life miserable. The other problem is that Internet Explorer is slow to load, and there is less customization than free open source web browsers.

Here is a list of the best web browsers Apple A1078 Battery out there. The list is short, but that’s because you really don’t need to look elsewhere for a browser.

1. Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is the second most used browser in the world and for good reason. It’s open source, has tons of addons, is more secure, faster and more reliable. Best of all, as you guessed it, it’s free. My favorite features are the side search bar that allows for quick searching of my favorite sites including Google, eBay, Yahoo, Wikipedia and more. It also has “addons” which are like widgets that make your browser experience more fun. Want to know the weather in your area? Grab a weather addon. Want to download YouTube video? Grab the DWhelper Addon.

2. Opera

Opera, which I use for the most secure web browsing, is my favorite choice, but not necessarily the Apple A1148 Battery best browser. It has less features than Firefox, and sometimes has bugs especially when dealing with Flash or Javascript, but overall the browsing experience is great. I love their landing page when you first open it; it brings up small screens of your favorite sites that you can go to quickly at a click of the button. It also has a quick search bar, and many great features. It is less popular than Firefox, but that can be a good thing especially when you have security and anonymity in mind.

3. Safari

This is Apple’s web browser and I will not go into too much depth here. It is better than Internet Explorer, but not as good as Opera or Firefox. Unless you are on a Mac, I recommend going with one of the others.

In conclusion, Firefox or Opera should be your first choice in Internet browsing, Safari a near second, and Internet Explorer should not be touched except in the most dire Apple M6091 Battery situations.
