Chris Evans is the first one to admit that he's no style icon. “If I had it my way, I’d be in sweat pants,” jokes the 30 year-old actor best known for his wimpy-to-wow transformation as Marvel Comic hero Captain America.
While that role (and the same character in the much-anticipated sequel The Avengers) mostly required him to don a superhero suit or rip off his shirt, the Boston native has gotten a subtle style transformation courtesy of Italian luxury label, Gucci. As the leading man for their Gucci Guilty and Gucci Guilty Intense fragrance campaigns alongside sexy stunner Evan Rachel Wood, the admitted “jeans and T-shirt” guy has learned a few lessons on looking good, and more. Here’s what he says:
Use accessories to suit your needs
I probably wear more sunglasses than I used to. It sounds pretentious, but there’s no denying it that when you have them on, you feel a little more hidden.

If you’re not one to fuss, keep your hair simple
I love having a shaved head. I’d rather not deal with hair if I don’t have to. I like not thinking about it. A shaved head and letting my beard go requires the least amount of anything. Watch, I just jinxed myself and I’m going to go bald. Chris should read this before he panics.

But do fuss over this hair
I’m getting to that age where I have to make sure I don’t have any hairs poking out of my nose. You think you’re coming into your own and before you know it, you look into the mirror one day and think, “I’m getting hair in my ears?” I just dial that in.

Look back on your mistakes with fondness, because they taught you what works
My worst hairstyle was a bowl cut parted down the middle. It was the 90s. It was what you did. I had that from 4th grade until freshman year in high school. I’m glad the pictures exist. I had great hair back then. I actually don’t think my hair could do that now.

Every man needs these three things in his closet
I’m a big fan of belts. You need a good one. They add a nice accent to your look. It’s a solid statement. Here are other accessories that matter.
A white T-shirt. It can complement so many things. It’s a classic.

A good pair of jeans. The trick is, when you try a good pair of jeans on, you may not think they’re that great, but you wear them two months and they become your favorite jeans. They’re tricky. You gotta let them live.

Comfort and style can co-exist
I wore a pair of jeans not too long ago that had a little bit of stretch to them and it was great. There’s a difference between what I think looks good and what feels good.

Your style should evolve with your age
I’ve never been much of a fashion guy, but over the last few years I find myself a little more conscious. Sometimes my friends are present when Gucci sends over clothes. They’re always interested in what I get. I’m like, “Guess what? We’re thirty now, guys. We can’t just wear baseball caps and hoodies.”

Sharing the spotlight can often be a good thing
There was a little less pressure to be fit on The Avengers than Captain America. I had just finished Captain America, so I was already built. Plus, Captain America has that one scene dramatic scene where my transformation is revealed. The Avengers has not one shirtless scene. For Captain America, I had a very grueling regimen. For The Avengers, I just didn’t want to get any smaller.

She’s a very cool girl. She’s just such a smart, talented, professional actress. She’s a child (I can say that because I’m 30). When I was 22, I was picking my nose—I mean, I don’t know what I was doing. She’s just something else.
Make a fitness resolution (even if you don’t keep it)
I have always wanted to get into yoga. I’m getting older and my body is starting to creak. I pull muscles all the time. But I’ve said that for the last five years. What do I do instead? Not yoga.
