Every one loves to get a little down and dirty every now and then. Having sex has been proven to have tons of benefits that we should—quite honestly— be reaping. Recently, science may have found yet another reason to get it on. Here's how having sex increases brain power and memory.
People love to do the deed. If you're planning to get it on tonight, you're probably smiling about the thought of it as you read this. And, with all those pleasurable feelings, who wouldn't look forward to it?
Sex can provide a slew of health and wellness benefits. Doing it can help to lower blood pressure, keep our immune systems strong and relieve stress. But now, science has found yet another benefit of getting your freak on.

A study conducted at Manchester University has found that having sex is actually a great way to
boost your memory and increase your brain power. This is good news for all those who encounter many a brain fart.

The study surveyed 1,700 people between the ages of 58 and 98, and drew some interesting conclusions based on their responses.
The test subjects who remained sexually active during their later years of life were found to have better memory and more brain power. So is the secret to immortality just a good shag every once in a while? Not exactly... but we'll still take it.

But how can this be? The brain has been long known to be one of the strongest driving forces behind our sexual desires.

This makes sense, right? Consider the fact that we can merely think ourselves into sexual desire and arousal. Therefore, sex and brains go hand-in-hand.
This isn't the first study to prove that sex is one of the brain's best exercises. A 2010 study, which was published in Plos One, found that getting it on can lead to increased cell growth in the hippocampus. The hippocampus is the part of the brain that's responsible for long-term memory.

It's all in the O too. Orgasms, which are the
hopeful result of sex, are also great for your brainpower.

According to Barry Komisaruk, PhD and his Rutgers University team, the female orgasm actually lights up 30 parts of the brain in an MRI scan. These lights represent blood flow, which carries nutrients and oxygen to the brain cells. This blood flow can lead to a very healthy brain.
But that's not all! A 2014 study conducted by the University of Maryland found that getting down and dirty leads to neurogenesis, which is the creation of new neurons in the brain.
The study also found that a little bit of good 'ol sexual activity
improves cognitive function, and makes us think more clearly.
Aside from simply making our brains better in tons of different ways, sex also has anti-aging benefits, which may also contribute to improved memory.
According to the University of Wisconsin, DHEA, a hormone that improves brain function and promotes new cell growth, is also produced when we get it on.
So, there you have it. Ditch the your encyclopedia and brain training exercises, and just do it. Your brain will certainly thank you!
