Pregnant from anal? It sounds like an R.L. Stine novel! You can't get pregnant from anal! That's like the one universal truth that has been told to every young sexually active teen since the dawn of time. But... what if you can get pregnant from anal sex? One woman did, but the reason why would shock you. You've got to keep reading to find out is pregnancy possible from anal? You'd be surprised.
Have you ever heard of a "cloacal malformation?" Let us know in the comments!
First of all, don’t panic! Not all people can get pregnant from anal! But… some can. Particularly a patient of Dr. Brian Steixner, a urologist. The Mirror Online reported that he had treated a patient who conceived a child after anal sex. But… how?
Rare condition. “Cloacal malformation.” That’s how. It apparently only affects one in 50,000 people, which is a pretty small amount of people considering there are somewhere around 7.125 billion people on Earth.

So what is a “cloacal malformation?” The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta website defines it as “a complex congenital problem defined by a confluence or coming together of the urinary tract, vagina, and rectum to form a single common channel.”

Cause. As of right now, doctors are unsure why this anomaly occurs in young women. But it is treatable, and usually spotted and diagnosed at birth! One woman after the operation was left vulnerable.
Tiny hole. The woman, according to The Mirror Online, had the operation to repair her cloacal malformation, but the operation went wrong, leaving a “tiny hole connecting her womb to the rectum.”

Surgery gone wrong? The surgery may have gone wrong, which left her with the tiny hole connecting her womb to her rectum. Or, according to Women’s Health Magazine, “in response to the trauma of surgery, her body formed a fistula (an abnormal connection between organs), and her uterus fused to her rectum.”

Spotting. Though spotting is a quite common occurrence for women, as long as it’s light, during pregnancy – rectal spotting is quite uncommon. That’s when one young woman knew something was wrong and rushed to the emergency room.
Dead-end. Women’s Health reports that every month, when this woman had her period, she would have her period “rectally… meanwhile, her vagina was a dead-end leading nowhere.”
Re-enter Steixner. While talking to the woman, Steixner learned that she “exclusively had anal sex prior to getting pregnant.” Which means… You guessed it! She must have gotten pregnant that way. “It blew my mind,” he said.
So how does the baby... come out? “She had a C-section,” reports Women’s Health. “The doctors didn’t think she should attempt to ‘poop’ out the baby.” And the baby was healthy!
The surgery. “Building the walls to separate the three passages [the urethra, the vagina, and rectum] is delicate work,” explains Steixner. “The longer the walls need to be built, the closer surgeons get to the urethral and anal sphincters.”
Will you ever have a fully-functioning body?” It’s possible women may always have issues with their bowels. “Some women suffer from leakage of urine and stool their entire lives,” says Steixner. “It’s a huge psychological and quality of life issue.”

Will anyone be able to tell? Apparently, a “cloacal malformation” doesn’t affect the outside of your vagina in any way. So even if someone were to be affected with this anomaly, everything looks “pretty normal” according to Women’s Health.
Where is she now? How’s the baby? Nobody is quite sure. Steixner hasn’t kept in contact with her. Her situation was such a rarity, that it’s a shame to not know what happened next!
So we guess you... can get pregnant from anal. But the odds are very, very small. There’s also the possibility that semen from the anus could get into the vagina, so obviously using protection is imperative!
